释义 | † mimmulusn. Obsolete. A weed of meadows mentioned by Pliny, identified as some kind of yellow rattle (genus Rhinanthus) or as either of the red rattles, Pedicularis sylvatica and P. palustris. ΚΠ 1633 T. Johnson Gerard's Herball (new ed.) ii. cdxxxvii. 1071 It [sc. Yellow Rattle] groweth in drie medowes and pastures, and is to them a great annoiance... Some thinke it to be the Mimmulus: or as others (& that more fitly) reade it, Nummulus, mentioned by Pliny, lib. 18. cap. 28. 1706 Phillips's New World of Words (new ed.) Mimmulus, the Herb Rattle, or Louse-wort. 1727 N. Bailey Universal Etymol. Eng. Dict. (new ed.) II Mimulus, the Herb Rattle or Louse Wort. 1728 R. Bradley Dict. Botanicum Mimmulus, herba Plinii quibusdam, i.e. Pedicularis. 1794 Bot. Mag. 8 283 Mimmulus is a classical word for the Pedicularis, or Lousewort.
