Origin: From a proper name; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymon: proper name Mindel.
Etymology: < the name of the river Mindel (German Mindel), a tributary of the Danube in Bavaria, Germany, after German Mindel-Vergletscherung ‘Mindel glacier’ (A. Penck 1901, in A. Penck & E. Brückner Die Alpen im Eiszeitalter (1901) I. i. 110).

Designating a Pleistocene glaciation in the Alps following the Günz and preceding the Riss, possibly corresponding to the Elsterian of northern Europe; of or relating to this glaciation.
