Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French minauderie.
Etymology: < French minauderie (c1580 in Middle French), probably < minauder to put on affected expressions (although only attested from 1625; < mine expression of face (see mien n.1), perhaps influenced by minaud , adjective, although this is attested only in the 19th cent. in regional use) + -erie -ery suffix. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (minodəri) /minodəri/.
Obsolete.
A coquettish manner or air; coquetry, flirtation; affectation. Chiefly in plural.
