单词 baldric
释义

baldricn.

Brit. /ˈbɔːldrɪk/, U.S. /ˈbɔldrɪk/, /ˈbɑldrɪk/
Forms: Middle English baudry, Middle English bauderyk, bawdrik, Middle English bawderyke, Middle English–1500s bawderick(e, bawdryk(e, Middle English–1600s baudrik(e, Middle English–1800s bawdrick, 1500s baudericke, bauderike, bawdrikke, bauldrick(e, baldricke, ( baldrege), 1500s–1600s baudricke, bawdrike, 1600s bautricke, balderiche, balledricke, 1600s–1800s baldrick, 1800s baudrick, 1700s– baldric.
Etymology: Identical in sense with old Middle High German balderich, palderich (Schade); also with Old French baldrei, baudrei (in later French baudroy), and with medieval Latin baldringus. The origin and history of the word are alike obscure: the first part is usually referred to Latin balteus or its Germanic adaptations (Old High German balz, English belt); but none of these satisfactorily account for bald-. The mutual relations of the forms in the different languages are also uncertain: the early English baudry was evidently from Old French; for the relation in which bauderyk, bawdrik, stands to the Middle High German forms, evidence is wanting.
