Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Probably partly formed within English, by conversion. Etymons: mis- prefix1, teche , tache n.1; mistetch v.
Etymology: < mis- prefix1 + teche, variant of tache n.1 In later use probably re-formed < mistetch v. Compare misteach n.In Middle English only attested in a text from a northern county (see quot. ?c1450).
English regional (northern).
A bad habit. Used esp. of animals.
