Etymology: Irregularly < mis- prefix1 + classical Latin crē-, stem of crēscere to grow (see crescent n.) + -ance suffix. Compare Old French mescreu misgrown (early 13th cent.).
Obsolete. rare.
A distorted or abortive growth. Also as a mass noun. Cf. misgrowth n.
