Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: mis- prefix1, crediting n. and adj. at credit v. Derivatives; miscredit v., -ing suffix1.
Etymology: Either < mis- prefix1 + crediting n. and adj. at credit v. Derivatives, or perhaps < miscredit v. + -ing suffix1 (although the verb is first attested slightly later in this sense).
Misattribution; (also) erroneous crediting; an instance of this.
