Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French ministrable.
Etymology: < French ministrable (person who is) likely or expected to become a minister or prime minister (1885) < ministre minister n. + -able -able suffix. Compare Middle French ministrable (1489, in uncertain sense), post-classical Latin ministrabilis able or ready to serve or help (11th or 12th cent. in a British source).The use in quot. 1914 at sense A. apparently arises from misunderstanding of the French word.
