Etymology: < post-classical Latin missaticus, adjective (in apparatus missaticus furniture of the mass (a993; 1609 in a British source); compare use as noun denoting a person who celebrates mass (12th cent. in a British source); < missa mass n.1 + -aticus -atic suffix) + -al suffix1; compare -ical suffix. Compare Middle French messatique (1566).
