Etymology: < post-classical Latin minutiae small details, trifles (4th cent.), plural of classical Latin minūtia (also minūtiēs ) smallness < minūtus minute adj. + -ia -ia suffix1. Compare minutia n.In the letters of Lord Chesterfield (1694–1773) French minucies , minuties (plural: see minutia n.) frequently occurs as synonymous with minutiae, as occasionally also in other writers of the period, e.g.:1749 Ld.
