An oriental variety of brassica, Brassica rapa var. nipposinica, having finely cut leaves with a mildly spicy taste, grown in Japan and increasingly in the West for use in salads and East Asian dishes. Also mizuna greens.Occasionally applied (apparently by confusion) to the more pungently flavoured Chinese mustard, Brassica juncea var. crispifolia.
