Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French molybdique.
Etymology: < French molybdique (1786 or earlier) < molybd- (in molybdène : see molybdenum n.) + -ique -ic suffix. Compare molybdenic adj., molybdous adj., molybdenous adj.
(a) Mineralogy. Containing or derived from molybdenum. (b) Chemistry. Of or containing molybdenum in one of its higher valencies, esp. in the hexavalent state. Cf. molybdous adj.
