Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: modulator n., demodulator n.
Etymology: < mo- (in modulator n.) + dem- (in demodulator n.).
Chiefly Computing.
A device that both modulates and demodulates electrical signals, converting digital ones into analogue ones and vice versa; spec. such a device used to connect a computer to a telephone line so that the former can send signals down the telephone line and receive signals from it.
