Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French moderer; Latin moderārī.
Etymology: < Middle French moderer (1357, earlier in past participle; French modérer ) and its etymon classical Latin moderārī (see moderate v.). Compare Italian moderare (c1308), Old Occitan moderar (1424), Spanish moderar (1490), Portuguese moderar (1572). Compare also modering n.
Obsolete.
