Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Partly a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Monandria n., -ic suffix, Greek μόνανδρος.
Etymology: In sense 1 < Monandria n. + -ic suffix; compare French monandrique (1868 in Littré), and earlier monandrian adj., monandrous adj. In sense 2 < ancient Greek or Hellenistic Greek μόνανδρος having one husband (see Monandria n.) + -ic suffix.
1. Botany. Of or relating to the Linnaean class Monandria. rare.
