Etymology: < Russian mončeit (A. D. Genkin et al. 1963, in Zapiski Vsesojuznogo Min. Obščestva 92 33) < monče- (in Mončegorsk , the name of a town and mountainous region in north-western Russia where it was first identified in 1962) + -it -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy.

A trigonal telluride and bismuthide of palladium and platinum, (Pt, Pd)(Te, Bi)₂, occurring as minute metallic grey grains, often in deposits of chalcopyrite.
