单词 banc
释义

bancn.

Origin: Either (i) a variant or alteration of another lexical item; modelled on Latin lexical items. Or perhaps (ii) a borrowing from French. Etymons: bank n.2; French banc.
Etymology: Either (i) an archaizing alteration of bank n.2, perhaps reinforced by post-classical Latin abbreviations such as com. banc. (see note), or perhaps (ii) re-borrowed < Law French banc (14th cent. in Anglo-Norman with reference to the major courts of England: see bank n.2).In English legal texts of the 17th cent., the post-classical Latin expressions de Banco Regis of the King's Bench (abbreviated de Banc. Reg.) and de Communi Banco of the Common Bench (abbreviated de Communi Banc., de Com. Banc.) are frequently attested. This use probably gave rise to examples such as the following:1651 True & Hist. Relation Poysoning Sir Thomas Overbury 104 Sir Hen. Hobart, L. Chief Justice of the Com. Banc.
