Etymology: < Irish maolai hornless cow < maol (see moil n.3) + a suffix of uncertain origin (perhaps compare -y suffix6). Compare mule n.3, muley n.1, and mull n.5
Scottish and Irish English.
A hornless cow or bullock. Also (in extended use): a mild-natured person; a person likened to a hornless cow in appearance (see quot. 1951). See also muley n.1
