Etymology: Alteration of Monothelitism n., after its ultimate etymon Byzantine Greek μονοθελήτης (see Monothelite n.); compare post-classical Latin Monotheletismus (1764 in the passage translated in quot. 1765 at Monothelitism n.). Compare earlier Monothelism n., and later Monothelete n. and adj.
