Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek μονόχρους , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek μονόχρους (see monochroic adj.) + -ous suffix. Compare monochromous adj., dichroous adj., and also isochroous adj. at iso- comb. form 1. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (mǫ̆nǫ·kroˌəs) /məˈnɒkrəʊəs/.
Entomology. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
