Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: mono- comb. form, Greek κύκλος.
Etymology: < mono- comb. form + ancient Greek κύκλος circle, wheel (see cycle n.1). Compare ancient Greek μονόκυκλος wheelbarrow, and also French monocycle (1846 as adjective, 1869 as noun; 1832 denoting a type of patented vehicle with one wheel). Compare unicycle n., bicycle n.
Any of various kinds of vehicle having a single wheel; a unicycle.
