Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French morosité; Latin mōrōsitās.
Etymology: < Middle French, French morosité moroseness, an instance of this (1486) and its etymon classical Latin mōrōsitās moroseness < mōrōsus morose adj.1 + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix).
The state or quality of being morose; morose character or disposition. Formerly also (chiefly in the 17th cent.): † an instance of moroseness (obsolete).
