Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French mouche.
Etymology: < French mouche small piece of taffeta worn on the face (1618), small tuft of hair allowed to grow beneath the lower lip (1840), specific uses of mouche fly (early 12th cent. in Old French as musche ) < classical Latin musca fly (see Musca n.).
1. A small black patch worn on the face as an ornament or to conceal a blemish. Now chiefly historical.
