Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French mouchette.
Etymology: < French mouchette (20th cent. in this sense; 1676 in sense ‘dripstone protruding from a cornice’; 1399 in Middle French in sense ‘scissor-like instrument used to snuff out candles’) < Middle French, French moucher (1380 in sense ‘to take off the end of a candle’: see mouchoir n.) + -ette -ette suffix.
Architecture.
In tracery: a motif shaped like a curved dagger or flame.
