Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: morpho- comb. form, -plasm comb. form.
Etymology: < morpho- comb. form + -plasm comb. form, after German Morphoplasma (A. Weismann Das Keimplasma (1892) i. 50: see quot. 1893 at main sense).
Biology. rare (now historical).
A distinct component of the protoplasm of a cell: (a) = trophoplasm n. at tropho- comb. form 1; (b) = metaplasm n.2
