Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin morsicant-, morsicāns.
Etymology: < classical Latin morsicant-, morsicāns, present participle of morsicāre to bite or nibble repeatedly (2nd cent. a.d.) < mors- , past participial stem of mordēre to bite (see mordant adj.) + -icāre, verbal suffix. N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (mǭ·ɹsikănt) /ˈmɔːsɪkənt/.
Medicine. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
That produces a pricking sensation.
