Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: moon n.1, stomping n.
Etymology: < moon n.1 + stomping n.The word first appeared in the lyrics of the song Skinhead Moonstomp by R. Ellis & M. Naismith, recorded in 1969 by the ska band Simaryp on an album of the same name (see quot. 1982).

Dancing that is characterized by heavy rhythmic stamping, associated esp. with skinheads dancing to ska.
