Etymology: < classical Latin mort-, mors death (see mort n.1) + -ido (in libido n.), after libido n.
Psychology.
The psychical energy associated with the death instinct. Also: the death instinct itself (see death instinct n. at death n. Compounds 2). Cf. libido n.

1952 P. Federin Ego Psychol. & Psychoses xiii. 272 It was Freud's conviction that all these kinds of destruction are due to one and the same principle, the death instinct. I join his opinion, and have termed mortido the energy produced by the death instinct.
