Etymology: < French mucosité mucous secretion (1539 in Middle French; 14th cent. in Old French in form muschosité ) < post-classical Latin muchositas (c1300) < classical Latin mūcōsus mucous adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix¹; compare -ity suffix).

1. A mucous secretion, a slimy covering. Also: a fluid containing or resembling mucus. Now rare. Perhaps disused.
