Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin mōrigerātiōn-, mōrigerātiō.
Etymology: < classical Latin mōrigerātiōn-, mōrigerātiō compliance, in post-classical Latin also character (14th cent.) < mōrigerāt- , past participial stem of mōrigerārī morigerate v. + -iō -ion suffix1. With evil morigeration (see sense 1) compare post-classical Latin mala morigeratio (1363 in Chauliac); compare also morigerate adj.
Now rare.
1. With modifying word: character or nature (of an illness). Only in evil morigeration. Obsolete.
