Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French morillon.
Etymology: < French morillon type of duck with black and white plumage (late 13th cent. in Old French as moreillon denoting a dark-coloured duck; also name of a grape variety: see morillon n.2) < more dark brown (see Moor n.2) + -illon ( < -ille -illa suffix + -on -oon suffix).
Now rare.
A female or young goldeneye duck, Bucephala clangula.Formerly mistaken for a separate species.

Now chiefly historical.
Any of several varieties of vine (grown originally in the Burgundy region of France), most notably the Pinot Noir variety; (also) the grape or the wine obtained from these vines.
