Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: morkin n.1, -ling suffix1.
Etymology: Alteration of morkin n.1, with substitution of -ling suffix1 for -kin (probably analysed as -kin suffix) by analogy with shorling n. N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (mǭ·ɹliŋ) /ˈmɔːlɪŋ/.
Obsolete.
1. Wool taken from the skin of a dead sheep; (occasionally) the skin itself. Contrasted with shorling. Cf. morkin n.1 2.In later use only in the traditional language of schedules to Acts of Parliament. The list in quot. 1833 was repealed by 5 & 6 Vict. c. 47 (1842), and the replacement text does not include the term.
