Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin mucrō.
Etymology: < classical Latin mucrō point, probably cognate with Byzantine Greek ἀμυκαλαί points of missiles (Hesychius), ancient Greek ἀμύσσειν to tear (see amyctic adj.).The -u- of classical Latin mucrō is of indeterminate length since the syllable is heavy. The -υ- of ancient Greek ἀμύσσειν is short.
Biology.
A pointed part of an organ or structure; (esp. in Zoology and Botany) a short, sharp, abrupt, terminal point or pointed process.
