Etymology: < mouse n. + bird n. In sense 1 after South African Dutch muisvogel , Afrikaans muisvoël muisvoël n.
1. Any of several small gregarious fruit-eating birds of the African genera Colius and Urocolius (together constituting the family Coliidae and order Coliiformes), with soft hairlike plumage of a predominantly dull brown or grey colour, a crest, and a long tail. Frequently with distinguishing word. Also called coly.

3. A whydah of the genus Vidua. Obsolete. rare.Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
