Etymology: < Sanskrit mudrā seal, stamp, signet ring, token, mode of holding the fingers in religious worship, cognate with Middle Persian, Persian muhr seal, signet ring (see mohur n.). O.E.D. Suppl. (1976) gives only the pronunciation (mɒdrā·) /mʌˈdrɑː/.
