Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymon: mummify v.
Etymology: < mummify v. (see -fication suffix), after French momification (1789 in sense ‘transformation of a body into a mummy’, 1840 in sense ‘desiccation of a dead fetus in the uterus’).
