Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with English elements. Etymons: Latin mumiformis , mummy n.1, -form comb. form2.
Etymology: In sense 1 < post-classical Latin mumiformis (P. A. Latreille Cours d'Entomol. (1831) 282) < mumia mummy n.1 + -formis -form comb. form2. In sense 2 < mummy n.1 + -form comb. form2, after French momiforme (1887 in the passage translated in quot. 1887 at sense 2).
