Etymology: < post-classical Latin multivocus expressed by many words (6th cent.; from 8th cent. in British sources; < multi- multi- comb. form + -vocus < vocāre to call: see vocate v.) + -al suffix1, after vocal adj. Compare univocal adj., equivocal adj. With use as noun compare post-classical Latin multivoca, plural (12th cent. in a British source), use as noun of neuter plural of multivocus.
