a1877 E. H. Knight Pract. Dict. Mech. II. 1519/1 Needle-loom, one in which the weft is carried by a needle instead of a shuttle. The usual form of loom for narrow wares, such as ribbons, tapes, bindings, etc.

2. A machine which produces non-woven fabrics and carpets by driving closely spaced barbed needles through a layer or web of loose fibres, usually on a base of hessian, etc., bringing about mechanical bonding of the fibres; a carpet made in this way.
