Origin: A borrowing from Japanese. Etymon: Japanese mura.
Etymology: < Japanese mura (10th cent.; 1603 in Vocabulario da Lingoa de Iapam), probably < the nominalized stem of an earlier form of mureru to gather, cluster, flock together.
In Japan: a village, a hamlet; (also) a rural administrative division corresponding to such a community. Frequently attributive.
