Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin myrtiformis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin and scientific Latin myrtiformis (1621 or earlier) < classical Latin myrtus myrtle (see myrt n.) + -formis -form comb. form2. Compare French myrtiforme (1721; 1704 as †mirtiforme). N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (mə̄·ɹtifǭɹm) /ˈmɜːtɪfɔːm/.
Anatomy. Now rare.
Having the shape of a myrtle berry.
