Etymology: < French muscadet (15th cent. in Middle French denoting both a type of wine and a grape variety), either < muscade (see nutmeg n.) + -et -et suffix¹, or alteration of muscadel muscadel n. with suffix substitution (see -et -et suffix¹).

A white wine made in the Loire valley near Nantes in France; (also) the grape from which this wine is made.The grape is more commonly known as Melon de Bourgogne.
