Etymology: Origin uncertain. Apparently an invented nonsense word first used on the Goon Show, a British comedy radio programme broadcast in the 1950s and 1960s: see quot. 1956 at sense 1. With sense 2 compare knacker n.1 3, nad n. 1, todger n.
