A member of a Yoruba people inhabiting the coastal areas of modern-day Nigeria and Benin; spec. a member of this people taken to the Caribbean or South America as a slave; a descendant of such a person.In the Caribbean and South America, the term appears to have been used with little discrimination to refer to any person of Yoruba origin.
