A bird of the family Muscicapidae (see note); esp. an Old World flycatcher.The family Muscicapidae contains the Old World flycatchers, but is sometimes taken (e.g. in J. L. Peters Check-list Birds of World (1931–87)) to encompass several other groups otherwise treated as separate families, including the Turdidae (thrushes), Sylviidae (Old World warblers), and Monarchidae (monarch flycatchers).
