Etymology: < scientific Latin mycelium (L. Trattinick in Fungi Austriaci (1804) 1) < ancient Greek μύκης mushroom (see myceto- comb. form) + -ium suffix, with insertion of -l- perhaps after epithelium epithelium n.
The vegetative tissue (thallus) of a fungus, typically consisting of a network of fine filaments (hyphae); an instance of this.
