Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: myco- comb. form, -phage comb. form.
Etymology: < myco- comb. form + -phage comb. form. Compare French mycophage (noun) person who eats fungi (1903), (adjective; of insects) that eats fungi (1917 or earlier). Compare earlier mycophagist n., mycophagous adj. With sense 1b compare also earlier mycophagy n.
