单词 musive
释义

musiveadj.n.

Forms: 1500s musyn (probably transmission error), 1600s–1800s musive.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin musivus, musivum.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin musivus (also musivum, noun: see mosaic n. and adj.1). Compare French musif, musive, adjective (see note). With musive work (see sense A. 1) compare mosaic work n. and post-classical Latin parallels s.v. With musive gold (see sense A. 2) compare post-classical Latin aurum musivum (see aurum musivum n. at aurum n. Compounds; compare mosaic gold n. and quot. 1746 at sense 2 at that entry), French or mussif (1792), or musif (1840). The form musyn in quots. 15111 at sense A. 1, 15112 at sense A. 1 probably represents a transmission error for musyu (although this form is not otherwise attested). N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (miū·siv) /ˈmjuːsɪv/.
Obsolete.
