Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by compounding. Or (ii) formed within English, by clipping or shortening. Etymons: myo- comb. form, clonus n.; paramyoclonus n.
Etymology: Either < myo- comb. form + clonus n., or shortened < paramyoclonus n. Compare German Muskelklonus (N. Friedreich 1881, in Arch. f. Pathol. Anat. u. Physiol. 86 430), Myoklonus. N.E.D. (1908) indicates the stress as myˈoclonus.
Medicine.
Involuntary, jerky contraction of one or more muscles, occurring singly or in a series, usually associated with disease of the central nervous system.
