Etymology: < naloxone n., with insertion of -tre- (perhaps an arbitrary element, or perhaps < tri- comb. form, with reference to the distinctive cyclopropyl group).
Pharmacology.
A synthetic morphinan derivative that is a potent opioid antagonist, administered orally (as the hydrochloride) to prevent relapse in heroin addicts after detoxification; (5R)-9a-cyclopropylmethyl-3,14-dihydroxy-4,5-epoxymorphinan-6-one, C20H23NO4.
